I think there can be little worse than offering condolences to someone in person for their own death which hasn't happened yet. Whether you agree or not I think good taste demands that a fiction is maintained that someone will get better, however unlikely that is. Far better to stress that you are there for them and supporting them rather than talk about after the death unless they have initiated the discussion and want to make arrangements for after. Some things don't need to be said and put in words. If you are able to hold their hand and show with your expression that you are there for them, that would mean more than words could express - and especially condolences.
