That depends on the jurisdiction and how the rifle is packaged. Technically, an "assault rifle" is a fully-automatic weapon; a machine gun like an AK47, or something like an M16 which is capable of firing a 3-round burst. (Most M16 rifles were built with the ability to fire single-shot, 3 round burst, or full auto. Most of them have been rebuilt to eliminate the full-auto setting, as soldiers were generally just wasting their ammunition that way.)
In order to possess or transport a machine gun, you would need a special category of FFL (Federal Firearms License).
A true "assault rifle" that can be transferred legally will run you 10000 and up.
You must be 18 to buy a rifle. The stock has nothing to do with it.
A TRUE Assault Rifle is fully automatic. Federal law requires you be 21 to buy one of those in ANY state. However, what people may CALL an assault rifle (such as a semi-auto AK47) can be purchased at 18.
It depends on what you mean. Most people use the term assault rifle incorrectly. If you mean an AR-15, that is not an assault rifle. That is a semi-automatic magazine fed rifle, or, in current terms, a modern sporting rifle. AR-15 rifles are legal in every state in the U.S. as far as I know. Real assault rifles are legal in most but not all states, under certain restrictions.
In the related links box below, I posted the information.
Assault rifle.
Assault rifle is a legal term, and laws vary place to place. Under MOST of them, it is a centerfire semi-auto rifle larger than 22 caliber, with a removeable magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, and a pistol grip. The SKS does not have a pistol grip, and has a fixed 10 round magazine. Not an assault rifle.
The SOAR (Special Operations Assault Rifle).
silly question - why shouldn't be? It is new Czech assault rifle. Made in CZUB
There are several different assault rifles - both by the true definition of an assault rifle and by the political motivated BATFE definition of a so-called "civilian assault rifle", manufactured by several different outfits. Which assault rifle did you have in mind, specifically?
The first true assault rifle debuted in 1942.
You will need to define assault rifle, and where you live. A TRUE assault rifle is a machine gun, and transfers of them are tightly regulated by the Federal government. What most people CALL an assault rifle is nothing but a semi-automatic rifle, and in most of the US, does not require a license to possess.
