This might seem dangerous, but a farmer in the 1970's or 80's in France found some of Napoleons armys buried food rations, including some meat stew that was preserved in large wine bottles with waxed corks. A few were opened and tested - the food was perfectly safe for consumption. A dinner party was held and the stew was served - the guests all found it delicious.
