While there are no direct drug interactions between Xanax and Prozac, any change in prescription medication regiments should be done through consultation with a medical professional.
Prozac is used to an number of different disorders. These include depression, panic disorder, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety, and PTSD. In some people, it increases anxiety.
Prozac
These 2 meds are in two completely different classes. Prozac is a SSRI (serotonin reuptake inhibitor) while Concerta is methylphenidate, a stimulant--acts on the dopamine in your brain. Concerta is essentially the same as Ritalin, only it's an extended release version. Prozac is used to treat depression/anxiety, among other uses, while Concerta is used to treat ADHD/ADD. That said, depression/anxiety can have symptoms that mimic the symptoms of ADHD. Lack of focus, concentration, irritability...to name a few. A diagnosis of ADD often comes after trials of SSRI treatment don't work. And also, sometimes these 2 meds are prescribed together, as oftentimes, ADHD and anxiety can go hand-in-hand.
presumably this med duo aide with management of anxiety with preexisting depression
If you go to your doctor and talk to him or her about your anxiety they can help you with that. You could also possibly go to a psychiatrist. I have generalized anxiety disorder and I take Alprazolam (the generic brand of Xanax) and Fluoxetine (the generic brand of Prozac). Both of these medications help to calm my anxiety. They were prescribed to me by my family doctor.
Medications classified as "Re-Uptake Inhibitors" - A class of drugs that are used mainly in the treatment of depression but also effectively address other conditions, such as generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, etc
Yes sometimes the chemical in the Prozac can be identified as a benzedrine. The volume that u take can make the test a false positive. Make sure to get a written note or diagnosis page from your physician
You should consult with a physician about what medications are best for you. We cannot mislead you with information that might not apply in your case.
fluoxetine (Prozac) sertraline (Zoloft) paroxetine (Paxil) fluvoxamine (Luvox) citalopram (Celexa) escitalopram (Lexapro)
It totally dependes on the person. I know of people who love each of those. I think Prozac is great for OCD and GAD (generalized anxiety). One will not be better than the other, just better for you and your needs.
NEVER try to treat anxiety panic attacks yourself; always consult your doctor! For anxiety panic, doctors typically prescribe (selective) serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, etc., but each person reacts differently.
Medically speaking you shouldn't mix alcohol and medication but in reality a glass or two (but no more) is probably ok for most people.
