Normally a girl's voice will deepen as she goes through puberty - as her voicebox grows, it will be a larger "echo-chamber" and create vibrations (ie. speech sounds) at lower frequencies.
This is why a large instrument such as a cello or a tuba sounds deeper than a violin or a Trumpet - because the larger instrument produces lower-frequency vibrations.
The effect is not as noticeable as the changes with boys however.
