I know but it is REALLY hard to explain.
Kidney transplantation involves surgically attaching a functioning kidney, or graft, from a brain dead organ donor (a cadaver transplant), or from a living donor, to a patient
If a kidney is taken from a live donor it is much healthier and has a better chance of being accepted by the recipient's body than a kidney from a dead donor. For the donor, this does involve major surgery, so it's a bit of a disadvantage to the living donor.
A kidney from a brain-dead organ donor used for purposes of kidney transplantation.
Yes, certain organs, e.g., one of a person's two kidneys, or part of the liver, can be transplanted from a living donor.
from people who die :D
they can be an organ donor and when they are dead, people can usetheir body parts.
Well, transplants is when a person has a failing organ and in order to survive, they need a new healthy one. For most organ transplants, the donor must be dead. If someone died, but was otherwise in good health, the family may be asked if they want to donate the organs. I believe a living person can donate a kidney though. It is well-known live donors donate up to half their livers to someone needing a transplant. If the liver 'takes', both the donor and patient will have their half-livers grow back to full size in 4 to 6 weeks. My question is: What are the age limits for the live donor?
When an organ transplant is required organs can be sourced from cadavers (dead donors) or from living donors. Living organ donation OS possible because some organs are duplicated in the body (e.g. kidneys) and one of the two can be removed for transplant, and other organs (e.g. the liver) are able to regenerate in the donors body after a portion is removed for transplant. Being a living donor is not a matter to be taken lightly as surgical complications can lead to the death of the donor. In addition, in the case of the removal of a paired organ, the donor foreits his spare organ which might be required later in life. In either case the transplant does not ensure the recovery of the recipient.
It comes from a dead organ donor
Depends on if it's a live donor or a dead donor. With a live donor only part of the liver is harvested for transplantation, and the remaining part will grow back to (close to) its original size within weeks.
A donor is somebody who gives one or more of their organs to somebody who has died. As we have two kidneys it is possible to donate one of them while you are still alive. But only a dead person can donate their heart. The best sources of hearts are people who have died in accidents like car crashes as the heart will probably be in very good condition.
He is not dead, but suffering from severe kidney disease.
