Define "a lot". Children are going through major and important stages of growth, and the amount of food, nutrients and minerals needed to keep the body going - let alone develop it further - can only increase with age (at least until adulthood when it levels off).

They will eat more and more, this increase going well into adolescence (as any parent of teenagers, especially multiple siblings, will tell you). If you simply mean "more than they did before", then it is that you have only just realised how much their food intake has increased since birth.
