- There is nothing wrong with a mother and daughter being best friends no matter what the age, but yes, it is abnormal not to make some friends and take a break every so often to go off on your own friends and have fun with others. Your mother is much older than you and hopefully she has many more years left, but when her time comes then you will be alone and that is when you are going to need friends to lean on. Spend time with your mother, but at least once or twice a week volunteer to meet other people; go out with new girlfriends and even date if you like. Take some nigh courses so you can work either from home or, a few days a week. You will need to make a life for yourself once your mother passes.
