Well Adderall is typically prescribed for ADHD symptoms and in some cases manic depressive episodes which are typical of Bipolar. Lithium and Lamictal can be used to stabilize moods. Keep in mind that there are other uses for these medication, yet I am coming to the conclusion that your Dr. believes you might have Bipolar along with ADHD. These two disorders in conjunction with one another have to be treated correctly and it takes a time, science and a little bit of art to get it right. Now if you are Bipolar with signs of ADHD, Adderall can increase the severity of the mania episodes and that's were Lithium Carbonate comes in to play. Lithium, depending on the dosage will remove the stimulant effect of Adderal. If you in-fact have ADHD, I got to go, my wife is calling. I will try to finish later.

Depokote vs lithium for treating bipolar disorder?

I was on lithium for quite some time and it didn't work real well for me. My dr. just recently put me on Lamictal for my bipolar disorder and it has worked fabulously! I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Why should lithium be closely monitored in bipolar disorder?

Often the therapeutic dose is very close to the toxic dose.

Is lithium the medication the same as the element lithium?

Yes, and no. Medical lithium does contain actual lithium, but not in its elemental form. It is given in the form of lithium carbonate an alkaline salt somewhat similar to washing soda (sodium carbonate). Lithium compounds such as this are usually stable and relatively benign. As an element lithium is a soft, light, and highly reactive metal. This reactivity makes elemental lithium impractical and even dangerous for everyday use.

Is Lithium Lamictal Zyprexa a common med combination for bipolar?

Two mood stabilizers and an antipsychotic (used as a minor mood stabilizer) is very common, but the specific ones will vary from patient to patient. The fact that Lamictal is one of the mood stabilizers suggests that the patient has slightly more problem with depressive mood swings than manic mood swings.

Do we use lithium in our everyday life?

No. Lithium metal is highly reactive and rather soft. Even if it didn't corrode away rapidly in normal conditions it wouldn't be much use. It is used in some types of battery. Lithium compounds are sometimes used in medicine, particularly as tranquilizers.

Can you consume Alcohol and lamictal and lithium?

I have been taking 300 mg Lamictal and 300 mg Lithium for a year. I can drink, but it doesn't seem to be as enjoyable to me as it once was. I seem to get affected by a very small amount of alcohol, and I feel icky for a day or so afterwards. My psychiatrist has told me that this occurs because Lamictal and alcohol are metabolized by the same enzymes in the liver, so the alcohol stays in your system for longer. I have also heard that it has something to do with GABA receptors in the brain.... Since I've been taking this combination, I have gotten really bad hangovers every time I drink- I feel it the next morning even after one glass. I have gotten really drunk a few times, and those were very unpleasant.

Is there a better way of curing mood swingselation and mania other than using lithium?

Lithium is a good medication because it is inexpensive. It does not cause a lot of horrible side effects, and around 75 percent of bipolars have very good results with it. However, if it does not work for you, there are still other medicines to try. Some examples include Depakote, Lamictal, and Tegretol.

Lithium is an example of?

An alkali metal, group 1.The diagonal relationship on the periodic table - its quite similar to Mg in reactivity. The way people use a shorthand in everyday life which is scientifically incorrect, Lithium is used instead of the proper name e.g. lithium carbonate to describe the medication for bipolar disorder. Lithium metal is highly reactive - just like sodium.
