If the pool has stairs and the dog is smart enough, he or she will swim it's way. Otherwise you will have to intervene.

I personally know of one that is a medium -long mix dapple miniature that wont get out of the pool. My grand children have to lock it out of the pool area. This little dog has been in the pool for more than two hours at a time and when it gets ready, it heads for the stairs and bolts out to play in the yard and then right back. I belive that any dog can swim, and that the extent of the swimming depends on how the dog is introduced to playing in the water.

yes chiuauas can swim. I had a pool and i put my dog in the water and he was only about 1 year old. Then automatically he started swimming i was very proud of him. Just make sure that if you put a chiuauaua in water that is deeper so he cant reach the bottom make sure that the dog is supervised or if you put the dog into the pool you should be in the water with the dog if it is the first time your dog tires to swim.

If the dog is ill or has fleas, it should at least swim in the pool by itself, for human safety. Speaking of human safety, you should also refill the pool after the dog is done with it, just in case.

You can't get a dog to swim by giving her a treat to get her going. Many dogs instinctively can swim, but stay close in case your dog can't. If your dog can't, it may not be possible to teach her, but you could work with her to do the movements, or put her with a dog that already swims and she might catch on.

It shouldn't do the system any harm if you let the dog have a swim the only thing is that you may have to keep a closer eye on the hair filter against the pool pump as dogs can leave a lot of hair behind in the water Any animals in a swimming pool with a vinyl liner has the potential to poke holes or rip your liner. I have seen where dogs have torn large size rips in the liner while they were trying to get out. There is a product in my area called a Skamper-Ramp that you could install so your pet always has a safe, easy way out without damaging your swimming pool. == == If you dog is on the large size they should be OK, but always be there for a pet just as you would a child. If the liner is attached and not flopping around it should be fine, and there is no reason a sand filter should bother a dog (however, check with a pool place to be sure.) It's also best to hose your dog down after they swim in the pool because of the chlorine. Many humans do this. The chlorine can irritate some dog's skin. WARNING: When it's time to put the cover on your pool, and if it is not secured by snaps on the sides of the pool, NEVER let kids or your pets near the pool.
