Yes, it definitely ok to take Ativan before a cortisone shot. My neurosurgeon prescribed me 2 x 1mg ativan to take before my cortisione shot in my spine. No danger at all. All it will do is relax you but don't drive after, you have to be accompanied by someone and driven home in case it hits you a little more than you thought it would.
