To a point, it is ok. If a customer talks a certain way, it is usually ok to talk to them the same way, it will make them more comfortable. If a customer is being rude though, there is no excuse to be rude back. Not letting rude people get to you (or at least not letting them know that they have) is a big part of the job if you work in any customer service industry. If you are rude or condescending to a customer, no matter how much of an intolerable jerk they might be, you aren't doing your job right.

I am a Christian, I totally disagree. First, a customer is always right even when they are wrong. Second The Bible tells us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Not as they do to to us. (i.e. be a amazingly beautiful example and let your light shine.)
