Only take as much as it takes to control the pain. Start out with 200 mg every 4 hours. If that works, stop. If it doesn't, take 400 mg. and see if that works. If you have to take more that 600 mg every 4 hours to control the pain, it's time to go to the doctor. Good luck.

∙ 13y agoYes, it can be safe. 600 mg ibuprofen tablets are available by prescription from the pharmacy, or you can just take 3 of the standard 200 mg OTC pills.
Always follow the directions on the label.
Personally, I find that the worst side effect of such high doses of ibuprofen is on the stomach, where it causes an excess of acid.
