By themselves, unlikely. Diodes usually fail catastrophically, shorting or opening. More probable is that one diode in the bridge set is open, while the others are functioning, causing the bridge configuration to perform poorly. This could lead, for instance, in normal operating voltage under low load, but poor (excessive) ripple under high load and inability to sustain rated current.

This is a common failure mode in automobile alternators. One diodes pops, causing output voltage to appear normal, but there is insufficient charge current to maintain the battery. If you had an ammeter, you would see barely enough current to hold operating voltage, and you would not see the normal higher then decreasing current following engine start.

What is full wave rectifire?

The full wave rectifier is a means of converting alternating current (ac) into direct current (dc). It is done with either the use of 2 diodes coming off a center tapped transformer, or by using a bridge rectifier, which conists of 4 diodes ganged together in a certain configuration. As it's name implies, it converts both the positive going and the negative going parts of the sign wave into useable dc, and therefore is more efficient than a half wave rectifier, which only converts 1/2 of the complete sign wave into useable dc.

What happens with voltage and current by damaged diode...the diode is IN5408?

It depends on how the diode is damaged. There are generally two cases. One, the diode is shorted, and conducts with a low impedance in both directions. The other, the diode is open, and does not conduct, having a high impedance, in both directions. The effect depends on the particular circuit. In a power supply, a shorted diode will often blow the fuse, while an open diode will result in no output, or in high ripple voltage output. Is it possible that diode has normal voltage output but wrong current, meaning low mA?

How long does current flow in one direction when sixty herts is used?

When 60 hertz current is used, current flows in one direction for half a second. This is because for 60 Hz frequency, polarity changes 60 times in a second, meaning it flows in either direction for 500 Ms.

Advantages of a full wave rectifier?

In half wave rectifier there are only two diodes connecting opposite to each other , hence their is possibility 0f only 90 degree phase will gane to us .thus we got the dc voltage wave . The half wave rectifier is cheaper one,it will give the pure dc.

Where does the word current come from?

Originally from Latin currere, which means "to run". The -ent ending comes from French. Electrical current and water current have the same meaning.

What is the difference between a rectifier and an lcd inverter?

It's really simple. A rectifier is an electronic device that converts AC (alternating current) to DC(direct current). It does so by using an arrangement of electronic components named a diode. An inverter is just the opposite of a rectifier. Meaning it coverts DC (direct current) to AC (alternating current) and that's just it. The process of how it's done is the same as for a rectifier, but just the diodes are arranged differently. An example of a rectifier device is the power supply inside your desktop computer. Inverters are usually found inside an LCD monitor.

What is the meaning of invulnerable?

Invulnerable refers to something being immune. It means that it is not possible for something to be damaged or injured.

Which way do the power diodes point in a bridge rectifier?

diodes do not point anywhere but the stripes denotes a cathode meaning current flow will flow out of that terminal to a more negative potential

What is a rectifier diodes?

It's an electronic component used to turn AC into DC. But it'won't be pure DC w/o some further processing. It is basically a semiconductor meaning will pass current one way only. Electrons will flow from positive to negative. Therefore Direct Current or DC as opposed to AC alternating current meaning positive and negative current flow. there is no such a thing as pure DC by adding a capacitor it can approach pure DC but mathematically speaking it is impossible to achieve.
