Yes, this is possible, though not recommended. A call to any library routine simply requires that one of the linked libraries contain that call. Problems may occur if more than one linked library containing an object module of the same name is used.
This might inadvertently occur if one were to accidentally instruct 'ld' to link an old and new version of the same library, though 'cc' and/or 'gcc' and/or 'ld' should complain if the prototype declarations in the header files differ from the object modules themselves or the source code call differs from the prototype declaration.
