The easiest way is to use the "networkmanager" applet. In kde it is called "knetworkmanager".
Many screensavers are available on the internet but only download them from trustworthy platforms. If you use MacOS X or linux a package named XScreenSaver provides you with a lot of beautifull screensavers at once.
There is no reason why a Linux OS (of any distro) can not be used without an internet connection. Provided that either an Linux type OS is downloaded and written as an IOS on a CD (for one example) to be used as a live CD with the options of trying or installing. Or you have been given the install disk, so not needing the internet! There are many operating systems and therefore, many opinions on what distro is the "best"! Have a look at Linux Mint or Ubuntu - my choice!
Currently, it is not possible to use a Zune with Linux. The Zune was required to use special software to sync music to and from it, in order to ensure DRM protection. The protcol for it has not yet been completely reverse-engineered.
