Fasting is not something I would recommend ever and if, only for a couple of days. In religions where ppl fast, like Islam, women who menstruate don't fast but starts after the period is over. But there is nothing that says it would be worse when you menstruate except that for me if I don't drink and eat properly my cramps gets worse and I can't take painkillers if I don't eat.
Spotting during fasting does not break the fast as long as it is not due to menstruation or intentional stimulation.
There is no proper reason why the women are considered impure for menstruation. The belief came from mere anxiety probably. The belief seem to have evolved in various cultures, almost simultaneously, probably. There is nothing impure in the menstruation.

Follicle stage -> ovulation -> corpus luteum -> menstruation

It is the same except that she is forgiven from performing the salat ritual worship and/or reading Quran when she is in menstruation (the monthly period). Also. she should not fast during her menstruation in the month of Ramadan or any month else but should compensate for the days she didn't fast during Ramadan.
No, the proper way would be: Swim quickly.
If you have the menstruation cycle than you cannot touch the Quran or Pray until you have finished the cycle and took a shower and then went back into Islam. If you have the menstruation cycle for 3 days and the 4th day your all clean than you should fast the 4th,5th,6th,7th...29th/30th.
Very fast unless stored in proper conditions.
