Roman Catholic AnswerActually, this is a wonderful question, and the answer is wonderful as well. The Church is the Body of Christ. Jesus stayed with us AND send the Holy Spirit. He stays with us, physically present all the time, in the Church, in the Blessed Sacrament. He is also mystically present in the Scriptures proclaimed by the priest, in the other worshipers, etc. Do you "have" to go to Church? Well, actually, it is a great privilege that you can go to Church and, yes, Jesus has said it is necessary. If you want to receive His grace through His Sacraments, then, yes, you "have" to go to Church. And when you get there, get on your knees, and thank God that He is there, and that He told you to go. This is what it means to be Catholic.
