Which oil light?
There are two on most cars. One of them is a "best practices" recommendation, the other one is notification that you have a serious problem. If your oil pressure is low enough to trigger that light, it means that you're either literally or effectively out of oil, and driving a car in that condition for even a short distance will ruin your engine.
no if the oil pressure gauge light is on it means that your car dose not have the oil pressure needed to properly oil the moving components, if you are sure that this is not the problem then replace the sensor and the light should shut off.
yes.if you know you really have oil pressure.
Drive it to the mechanic. You have something wrong and that is what the car is telling you. Oil, water, something is not right.
Generally, yes. If the light is on solid then almost cetainly so. However if the engine light is flashing on and off then you are possibly damaging the catalytic converter. Not good. Just make certain that the oil is full and the engine is not overheating. Also do not drive the car if it dies out or is acts unsafe in any way. I have lots of people drive cars into the shop here with the check engine light on. Most are basic problems ..O2 sensors, Hvac leaks... Again, if you are afraid to drive the car, then it is probably worth just towing it as it can be a bit scary to drive a car that you dont trust.
The oil pressure light comes on if the car is out of oil, or the oil pressure sending unit is malfunctioning. Check oil level, if oil is up to fill level then your oil pump is bad. DO NOT DRIVE the car. Have it towed to a Jaguar dealership or other reputable garage.
No you shouldn't your oil level may be fine, but your oil pressure may not be. Would hate to seize the motor.
As long as the oil pressure light does not come on it will do no damage. If the light comes on, even for a few seconds, stop immediately.
The light is NOT a low oil light. It is a low OIL PRESSURE light. You can drive it until the engine seizes. Of course internal engine damage will start to occur as soon as the light comes on and you have no oil pressure if you continue to drive the vehicle.
The oil light is indicative of extremely low oil pressure. First check the oil level, if the car has little to no oil in it, the light will come on. Assuming the sensor is functioning correctly, and the car has oil in it, the oil light being in would indicate a clogged or broken oil pump which can not provide sufficient oil pressure. Driving with very low oil or a malfunctioning oil pump will damage the internals of the engine in very short order and lead to expensive repairs. If the oil light is on and the oil level is where it should be, you shouldn't drive the car and should have it towed to a mechanic to be looked at.
It means your car has very little oil in it and if you don't put more oil in you will wreck your engine. You need to do this before you drive it anymore.
The light is on because the engine had Low oil pressure. Caused by low oil level, or defective oil pump. Check the oil level and if it is full seek professional help. Do not drive this car with low oil pressure or you will destroy the engine. If it has gotten hot then you have already done some damage.
Do not drive the car until you verify the following: 1. if you have oil in your engine. 2, if your oil sender is bad 3, if your oil pump is failing.
