If the outside temperature is cool and the pumpkin shell has not been cut, there should be no problem toting a small pumpkin around in your car for a week or so. However, if it freezes (below 32F) and thaws, the freezing-thawing could result in the pumpkin breaking open and leaking contents. On the other hand, the warm outside temps and especially if left in a window in the sun, this will cause a pumpkin to begin to rot. Rotting pumpkins turn soft and lose their hard outer shell, sort of like picking up a wet paper bag. You will never know when the contents will burst out, as liquid, as the insides break down. So you will see a mixture of liquid with fibrous pumpkin threads attached to the seeds, all oozing out. It would be a terrible stinky mess to clean up.
Perhaps, therefore, it is better to take Baby Pumpkin into your house, surrounded by other Fruits (apples, Pears, bananas) and take a picture of him/her. Enlarge the picture to 5"x7" or 8"x10" and tape the paper to your car window, so Baby Pumpkin can look out to see the world during it's very short life! But leave the real Baby Pumpkin in the house. The cat or dog make great Pumpkin babysitters and will keep Baby Pumpkin from getting lonely. By the way, you probably should name "Baby" soon, considering that pumpkins have a very short life--you wouldn't want her to be called "baby" her whole life, or if a boy for him to be called "Baby Jr." his whole life. Wishing you and your baby pumpkin well--hope he/she makes a good pie.

Many studies have shown that yes, child car seats consistently lower the risk of significant injury. Note that a car seat will keep your baby safe only if the seat is properly attached and the baby is strapped in correctly. The seat will not prevent the baby from being injured in all cases, but it will improve the odds of the baby surviving a wreck by several magnitudes. The seat will also prevent the child from breaking his neck when his head hits the dashboard when you brake suddenly. Many children standing on the front seat die in this manner.
