My personal experience tells me that this is something that you should speak to your doctor about. I had to stop taking ambien while taking wellbutrin because of serious side effects. More specifically, I would experience sleep walking or sleep waking the night I took ambien or even a night or two after. A few times, I experienced full hallucinations while sleep waking. It sounds crazy, but I saw ghosts and had complete visual and auditory hallucinations. Scared the heck out of my wife. These are singular events in my life. I am otherwise a healthy man in his young 30's. You should speak to your doctor.

∙ 12y agoI have been on budepropion XL 300mg for several years. Last summer I was having some issues sleeping and my doctor prescribed ambien 10mg. I was on it for about 2 months. (while still on the budepropion)
I had no problems. (at least that I am aware of!)
based on my doctor prescribing the combination, I am guessing it is safe.
I would be careful taking ambien if it is not prescribed to you though (since you are asking the question I am guessing your doctor is not the one giving the ambien because you would most likely know it was safe if your doc. had prescribed both)
They say ambien is non addictive, however... I REALLY feel that it is when you take it for extended periods of time. (if you look at ambien ads they always say that it is meant for short periods of time, one week or less)
also, don't take the ambien Until you lay down. Or else you may have wakeful activity that you do NOT remember. a couple of times I took the medication and went about my business figuring I would go to bed when I got tired, only to wake up in the morning having NO memory of going to bed or what I had done before going to bed!
Anyhow, hope that helps. I'm not a doctor by ANY means, but that is my experience with that combination.

First Answer: im assuming you mean buproprion XL vs buproprion SR (generic wellbutrin) and the difference is mainly buproprion XL is one pill that lasts all day, and is more expensive. Buproprion SR is a 12 hr slow release pill that's effects last for...12 hours. if you take it at 8 am in the morning, you should take your second pill at 8pm if a doctor prescribes wellbutrin for reasons other than depression they may prescribe the SR version once daily and play with the dose a bit to stabilize you, theres more flexibilty with a 2wice daily drug than a once daily drug, but the once daily XL version is more convenient..and expensive. Improvement: You should not assume the person means "bupropion" when they write "budeprion". Budeprion is manufactured by Teva, and bupropion is manufactured by Watson. Many people who have used both medications claim that they have reacted very differently to the two drugs. A pharmacist may tell you that they're the same, they are both generics for Wellbutrin, but they have different absorption rates. This can make a big difference in the effect it has.

Budeprion (bupropion XL) is a NDRI (noradrenaline/dopamine/norepinephrine re uptake inhibitor) used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD), and occasionally used to treat anxiety or ADD/ADHD. adderall (amphetamine salts), is used to treat ADD/ADHD. the difference between these two drugs is the method of action. budeprion stops the chemical re uptake of dopamine (only slightly), noradrenaline and norepinephrine (neurotransmitters in the brain) solely, and has no effect on the immediate release of them. it also takes quite a while to start having a real effect (3-6 weeks), whereas adderall starts working 30 minutes or so after it is taken. adderall (amphetamine) not only prevents the re uptake of dopamine and norepinephrine (like budeprion), it largely stimulates the immediate release of these neurotransmitters into the synapse(s). therefore, adderall is a much more stimulating chemical used almost exclusively to treat ADD/ADHD, whereas budeprion XL is used largely to treat depression. basically, budeprion is an antidepressant, adderall is a stimulant.

The HMOs will tell you that budeprion and Wellbutrin are the same but the bonding agent is not. Thus, if you have been taking the Wellbutrin XL, the Budeprion SR will not release quite the same way. Answer: Well Bupropion is the generic of Welbutrin so the active ingredients are the same just the inactives are different like the bonding agents. The difference between SR and XL is the dose per pill available XL only comes in 300mg and is time released in a 24hr period so you get a constant amount of medicine the entire day from one pill. SR comes in 100mg and 200mg doses and are also time released so your doctor can easily adjust your daily dose by having you take one, two or three pills a day (making sure that they are at least 6 hrs apart form each other)
