well it is better out of the house because if the earthqhake hits the house, it'll hit it at the bottom (and you will die) and the top will fall off (and you will die).
They all do have laws for making a building earthquake proof.
Make sure the bedroom is under the ground.Or, it's unsafe
Because it is safer
Earthquake can not be prevented but harm that it causes can be prevented. The most important and effective way is to make buildings that do not effected by earthquake because all harm it do is because of distractions of buildings. In Japan they have made buildings of this type because this is a very common thing there.
ok so Irvine California is a safer spot than most in California because it is a newer city.
Not building them in earthquake zones would be one way.

There is less chance of buildings collapsing on you and your possessions
Make sure the bedroom is under the ground.Or, it's unsafe
Because it is safer
Take off everything on the walls and make sure beds are not near the windows
You are safer using the stairs to evacuate the building than trying to use the elevator. Because you might fall and get injured or maybe die.
Above ground. If you are below ground then there is something above you and this may collapse on you. The safest place to be during an earthquake is on the ground out in the open where nothing can fall on you. Earthquakes do not kill many people directly, it is falling buildings that do that.
Well it depends where and how the bedroom is designed, but anyway it has more open space and a doorway to hang on to. But NEVER go under something or someone during a earthquake.
yes its safer
Make sure to get under something like a bed, desk, I would would especially suggest somebody grab something glass or things that could hurt or break and throw them out during the earthquake because sharp things on the ground are not good.
v You are away from large buildings. v You are away from power lines.
