Though each hospital and each surgeon have their own procedures and methods, and each case is individual, it is generally speaking not normal to have a drain when being discharged. Drains are removed prior to release in our clinic. Personally, I would not let you go. However, each case is individual and there may be a reason for this. Your surgeon may clarify this.
