i think thomas Jefferson beat john Adams in 1996
During the elections Adams beat Thomas Jefferson.
John Adams beat Thomas Jefferson in the U.S. presidential election of 1796, but due to a peculiarity in the way vice presidents were selected, which wasn't corrected until 1804, Adams' opponent, Thomas Jefferson, became Vice President instead of Adams' running mate, Thomas Pinckney. Adams and Jefferson ran against each other again in the 1800 election, and that time Jefferson won (after the U.S. House of Representatives broke the tie between Jefferson and his running mate, Aaron Burr).
Mr.Jefferson felt the need to express himself through his books. He was very depressed when he gave his libary up. Mr Jefferson even started to beat his slaves.

Incumbent President Thomas Jefferson (DR-VA) beat former Foreign Minister Charles C. Pinckney (F-SC) 162 to 14.

Jefferson was reelected in the 1804 election when he beat Charles Cotesworth Pickney by a landslide. Jefferson received 72.8% of the popular vote and 162 electoral votes (compared to Pickney's 14 electoral votes). The obvious answer is that he lost the election. He had tried to carry on Washington's political ideas, but he was no Washington and had no strong following outside of Massachusetts. He was somewhat paranoid about another revolution and push through the alien and sedition acts which were unpopular. Adams had strong opposition in Thomas Jefferson who had much long-standing support in Virginia. Jefferson came in second to Adams in 1796 and by 1800 the balance had shifted over to Jefferson's favor.
John Adams. Adams only had one term.
