No. Nobody can turn gay. It's simply not possible to change sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is fixed at an early age, possibly at birth.

I don't think all popular kids turn out as geeks. But some, don't go very far. Because they either they think they are cool, and drop out of high school, or don't go to college, and end up not going anywhere. Or that may not be the problem at all. Some popular kids do not let it go to their head, and end up doing very well in life.
School is for both kids and adults. Universities are for adults while preschool through 12th grade is for kids (although if you turn 18 while still in high school, you are technically an adult). If you look at it more broadly, we are all learning all the time, so while we may not be in a formal classroom, we are always in "school" of sorts.
