No, Jesus was not a copy of Joseph for in John 3:16, it states the God gave His Son (Jesus), that whoever put their faith (trust) in Him would have "eternal life." Joseph could not provide people with forgiveness of their sins as in Luke 7:48-50. These are things only Jesus could do not Joesph or any other human being.

Not at all. There are so many obvious major differences. Jesus was first born son while Joseph had many brother and sisters before him. Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt when a young man and lived there the rest of his life. Jesus only visited Egypt for a period while there was concern for his safety due to Herod. Jesus was never in any earthly position of political authority whereas Joseph was second in charge in Egypt for a considerable period. Jesus was a teacher and miracle-working Son of God. Joseph never taught nor performed miracles and certainly was not divine.

A:There are two, very different Christmas, or nativity, stories in the New Testament. The account in Luke's Gospel has very little in common with the Old Testament other than that Jesus was born in Bethlehem in supposed fulfilment of Micah 5:1-2, which says that a future ruler of Israel will be born in Bethlehem. Jeremiah 23:5, written at a time when it could still be hoped that a future king would restore Judah's independence, says that the days are coming when a descendant of David will be king and will rule wisely. Luke therefore has Joseph, the father of Jesus (as was supposed) a descendant of King David. The author of Matthew is well known for drawing parallels with the Old Testament, and Matthew's nativity story has many points of comparison with the Old Testament.
