No not in the beginning. Now I'm going to share a very little known secret about this subject. When computers first came out they were primarily being used by the government and the military. A young Naval officer by the name of Grace Hopper was the first to realize the potential of these computers being able to talk to one another. She spent the rest of her Naval Career developing programs to make that happen and improve it. Grace Hopper is worth learning about.
