Is it true that dead people do not roam the earth that these are demons posing as dead people?

The answer would depend on your perspective. As far as Christians are concerned, The Bible clearly declares that "the dead know not anything" and "he [a dead person] will not return to his place again". In addition the law of Moses ordained the death penalty for "witchcraft", which is understood as necromancy or the attempt to communicate with the dead.

Some Christian denominations believe that good people who have died are in the presence of God and are aware of what is happening on earth and can be requested to speak to God for us. Prayers to saints are the only form of contact with the dead that Christianity recognises and nearly all Protestant churches reject them as contrary to Scripture.

Given that God forbids contact with the dead and declares that the dead are truly dead, who else might have an interest in persuading people otherwise? Genesis 3 records the first lie as "You will not die", told by the devil posing as a snake. So, without a clear definition of what the word "demon" really refers to in a supernatural sense, we're left guessing. However, most of the beings described in literature have never been proven to exist. And even many of the people who do believe they have a handle on what "demon" means, and say they DO exist, often refer to Satan's participation on earth being grossly limited by God. In summary, the empirical perspective states that: * The dead do not rise, ever, in any sense. * Demons, whatever they are, do not appear to exist. At least we have no way to demonstrate that they do. * If demons did exist, there's no reason apparent that they'd either be able to animate the dead, or want to do so if they could.
