I can vouch for that. I went to visit my sister one day when my niece was about 10 months old. I was surprised to see that she had an orange tint to her face and hands-- like a bad artificial baby sun tan. I asked my sister "Why is she orange?" and with an exasperated tone my sister replied "BECAUSE ALL THE BABY FOOD HAS CARROTS!" Now years later as a growing child my niece refuses to eat carrots. She hates them.

No Beta-carotene does turn people orange, and there is beta-carotene in carrots. However, you would still have to eat a huge amount of carrots to turn orange, although if you were drinking a lot of carrot juice it becomes more achievable. (These days beta-carotene is sold in capsule form for people wishing to have a year-round tan/orange glow).

Your skin can turn orange by eating carrots if you have eaten over the daily recommended value. Your body can no longer absorb/store the vitamin A from the carrots and it shows up in your skin.
