Is it true that if you soak a sock in rubbing alcohol when you're sick and then sleep with it around your neck it can help?

Yes it absolutely works for a bad night time cough. My mother did this for 4 kids and when my kids got a bad cough it was the only thing that could help them sleep. Don't use a bunch though, just dampen the sock and wrap it around the neck. It will work better that any cold relief listed below. I've never heard that, Are you sure that would be safe? I say if it's a cold, Vick's vapor rub, Tylenal cold and sinus and NyQuil are just awesome. I think it is a load of nonsense, you would be made even more sick by the fumes. As the previous person says, if you have a cold or flu, wrap up warm, take plenty of fluids, treat the symptoms, and don't pass your germs on. If you have flu stay in bed for a couple of days too. If you are sick in any other way go and see a doctor.
