There were no actual "universities" in medieval Europe. But Classical Greek scholars (500 BC) had already suggested that the Earth was spherical. It was not until the 1800s that some historians promoted the *speculative* idea that the Flat Earth theory was predominant from the Middle Ages until the time of Christopher Columbus.
