These two were the only major candidates in the November election. There are always minor parties who get their candidates' names on the ballots in some states and write-in votes are legal in some states, I think. Ralph Nader was on the ballot in every state and won 0.56% of the popular vote.

Of course, several people ran for the nominations in the primaries.
