Is it true when you apply for a lot if credit cards it makes you look bad?

Yes, it can do. A lender might firstly be suspicious as to why you need so many cards. Secondly, if you keep applying does it mean that you have been turned down? If so, why?
Further, if you have many cards then the amount you could borrow on all cards together (your credit limit) is going up and lenders might be uneasy with the amount of credit you have in total.
