It depends on why you are avoiding your mate. If you really don't like being around them then it's time to let them know you no longer care for them and move on. If you just want time to be by yourself or time to go out with your friends then no, that's not weird at all. People who are too close end up paying for it sooner or later. They often lose touch with their friends and can become too dependent on each other. In some cases the relationship can grow stale. You hold the key to why you are avoiding your mate.
