In my opinion it is because you'll get a good price fore it right now, I had roughly 100grams of it and I walked out of the gold and silver store with roughly $400 it was way more then expected. Your best bet is to go and see their offer, if you like it take it, if not then the price is only going to go up

No, it's actually silver plate. The original pattern was created in 1881, probably by one of the many Rogers labels. Today the patterns are re-created by Oneida and International Silver. I have a set of this silverware marked "1881 Rogers A1" and unraveled the history after a lot of research. My particular pattern is called "Scotia" and was made in 1915, but I obviously thought it was from 1881. If there is a "sterling" mark on the silver, you have sterling. However, most of the Rogers pieces are silver plate. If there is an "IS" marking, check International Silver for the pattern.

That depends on what you mean by "worth". Generally speaking, sterling flatware will be valued by maker/pattern/condition. There are brokers and resellers who specialize in sterling and sales to them would normally result in a price to you of 1/4 to 1/2 the price they'd sell it as they'd list it as "used" or estate silver. Inscriptions or initial stamps will lessen the value. The absolute minimum value would be the value of the silver itself, you'd weigh the silver parts, and then multiply by .925 to get the weight in actual silver. You then multiply that weight in ounces by the price of silver in ounces to get the silver value of the set. Kitco.com has the quotes for silver prices on a pretty much constant basis. Note that if you are selling for scrap, you'll do well to get 3/4 of the precious metal value of the total. The best price to you would probably be obtained by selling it yourself on one of the auction or sales websites, setting that minimum of 1/2 the price set by one of the estate silver dealers.
