Is it worth charging a car battery if it has gone flat several times?

If you don't keep an otherwise good battery charged in freezing weather it can freeze and break the case. If your battery won't hold a charge because something is draining it, you should disconnect a cable and charge it then reconnect it before you try to start the car...or fix whatever it is that is causing the draw. It is better to keep the battery charged so you can start the car when needed. Consider hooking a battery tender to the battery if it discharges because of long-term disuse.

Last time this happen to me, it was a sign of the battery going bad. It kept stop charging at shorter and shorter period until my battery can barely hold 10 minutes worth of power.

The warning light doesn't tell you how healthy the battery is, it tells you if there are any problems with the charging system. A flickering light means charging is intermittant for some reason, so it would be worth checking the alternator or voltage regulator, which might be on the way out. It's worth also checking that the warning light circuit and bulb are ok - if it lights up brightly and continuously when you switch the ignition on, then goes off when you start the engine, it's ok. It could be that there is a bad connection between the starter solenoid and the starter, or that the starter motor itself has failed. Check the wires first. They're cheaper to replace. This also happens when the battery is very low, so it may be worth charging the battery if you haven't already eliminated that possibility.
