That depends entirely on how much you value the car.
It depends on the year, make, model, mileage and general condition of the vehicle. Consult a trusted mechanic.
A few things you have to look at- How old is the car? Except for the bad head gasket, does the car operate OK? How many miles are on the car?? These are things you have to decide what you will do.
yeah depends on miles the car is rare hard to get ahold of
General condition of vehicle? Can you replace vehicle for the amount of repair? Do you like vehicle?
If this is a nice car then spend the money and have the blown head gasket repaired before you try to sell it. With a blown head gasket it is only worth what someone will pay. Would you buy a car with a blown head gasket? I sure would not, as there is no way of knowing how much damage has been done. I would not touch this car as it stands now and neither will most people. It is worth very little with the gasket blown.
It's really not worth fixing even if you could. It's better to just buy a new one.
You usually will want to get an estimate in order to determine if your car is worth fixing. Many times, if it is your engine, it is not going to be worth fixing.
The average value of this vehicle is around $2,000. In this condition it might be worth $500. It would be in your best interest to repair the blown head gasket and then sell the car. ---------- Put it on craigslist. SOme people like my self would buy that car and fix it ourselves. It is common for the SOHC to crack at the 4th cylinder. Expect to replace the entire head and head gasket.
That depends on the age of the car..the number of miles and how much the car is worth versus how much it costs to have the work done...do if you have a twelve year old car with 125000 miles and it's only worth 1500 dollars....and a head gasket job costs $400...then is that car worth about 2000 dollars to you??? And if the head gaskets are blown, chances are, that there are several other issues with that car..blown head gaskets are usually due to poor maintenance or abuse. Is the risk worth the expense if the transmission is probably going to go out soon...or if the car was driven for a while with the blown gasket...then your probably also going to have the engine seize up soon because the engine oil was contaminated with engine coolant and the bearings are now in really bad condition...always be aware that something as severe as a blown head gasket can lead to other serious repairs.
Continue to make the payments if you value your credit score Otherwise it will be repossessed running or not and that's a big black mark on your credit
It's not even worth trying. The pressure in the cylinders during compression will blow away any gasket sealant. The ONLY way is to remove the head, have it resurfaced then put it back together. NO IT WON'T only thing that will help is a new gasket set ( I KNOW DAMET )
I'm assuming it is a head gasket? The part only costs about $30 but there is a good amount of labor involved (7 to 9 hours). If you are taking it into a shop it can cost you anywhere from $700 to $1200. You should decide if the car is worth it or not.
