As a professor, I'd say no. I know that students would disagree, but homework can actually be quite useful. Yes, some assignments can seem like busy-work, but some assignments can be thought-provoking, and give you a chance to apply the concepts you've learned (and show the teacher you understood the material). Homework gives you practice and it reinforces what you've been studying. So, for those reasons, I think we need to keep it around.
