Is listening to music better than watching tv?

This question could be answered differently depending on what you are looking for.

Environment-wise, most music players consume much less energy than TVs, so if you're looking to decrease your carbon footprint or be a greenie, then music's obviously your better preference.

If all you are worried about is how much each will dig into your wallet, then music may also be the cheaper one - depending on the legal legitimacy of the music you get your hands on. MP3 players cost far less than TVs. Fullstop. On the other hand, watching free-to-air TV (if you're not prepped to pay for 500 channels most of which you probably won't flick onto) may have a lower long term cost for your pocket than continually managing your music playlists.

Content-wise - then there's plenty of decent stuff in both music and on TV - it's just up to you to pick the right stuff to watch/listen to. However, while both can be for the purposes of enjoyment, TV has broad advantages over music - news, current affairs, educational/informative programs, travel shows, interactivity ... only to list a few.

Then there's personal preference.

I don't know why this question was even asked - I mean - isn't it simple? You can't go to sleep, but want to - music - practical, low energy, etc. Bored at night - TV. Want the news - TV - or radio if you're rushed for time.

In this world today - it's not so much an issue of this 'or' this - more like music 'and' TV. Music's been around heaps longer than TV, but you might notice that you can't get much TV without music.

My personal opinion is yes. When you watch a music video you already know whats going on and so on and so forth. But when you listen to it is more interesting because your brain just storms thru all of these different ideas of what it is that they are trying to get through to you. Also when i listen to music im more focused and more pleased then i am when i watch it because the video turns my attention away from the music.
