I have found many things in my research for Locks of Love. There has definitely been mixed reviews. Overall, they say the same thing, but with different standpoints. Locks of Love has been proven to sell some of the hair. I predict and agree with those who say that they sell the hair because of organization charges. They have to stay in business somehow.
80% is unusable. I believe this as well, but it is because before donating, you do not put the hair in the right format, and they can't use tangled, moldy, wet, short, grey, or too processed hair. All of these factors make making a wig nearly impossible.
Children must pay an upwards of $1,000 dollars for a wig. I do not believe this. In an interview, a representative said "We provide hairpieces and repairs free of charge or on a sliding scale based on the financial need of those responsible for the children." This means that if the family is unfortunate money-wise, they will get a wig for free or very lowly priced. IF they are rich, they will have to pay because Locks of Love still needs money to keep going.
Just trust them at least a little bit. Even if they are corrupt, which I do not believe, you hair will grow back.
Locks of Love was started in 1997.
locks of love is a good organization. I think they have a site www.locksoflove.com
the best brand for school locks would probably be Kathmandu, scholar or Spartan. I would recommend using travel locks too as they are very durable and trustworthy.
