Greater London has two cities within its borders; the City of London which has its own administration within the rest of London and is the main financial district and the area covered by the original medieval London and the City of Westminster which has the same jurisdiction as the rest of London, ie the 32 other boroughs.

That part of London is usually referred to as 'The City' or 'The Square Mile' and is now the main financial district of the UK with thousands of people commuting into it every day but not many people living there permanently. The population of Greater London is around 8 million.
