The only true way to get a long haired chihuahua is mom and dad to both be long haired. Once in a blue moon a long hair may pup up in a litter because of the hidden long hair gene that has to be within both parents. So, it can happen but I have never gotten a truly thick long hair chihuahua this way.

You take GREAT care of the long haired dogs fur and not as good care of the short haired dogs fur and i am just the opposite.
