I have been asking this same question for years. I have always been a big fan of MC Lyte's music and have always found her mildly, physically attractive. (Especially in the later albums' cover art, wher I assume that's what she was going for) However, questions about her sexuality have always been in the back of my head.

Over the years, I have heard other people ponder the question, as well. On the occasions that she has been interviewed and I have read or seen, neither does anyone ask her (being in good taste and respectful of her privacy) nor she does mention any of the usual things we have come to expect from our celebrity interviews like her love life or significant other, etc.

I have been doing casual research for years, just out of curiosity. I have been trying to find anything on this subject. At this point, after many years of conjecture, I have come to an opinion. This is not stated as fact. I do not even know her.

I believe that she is either lesbian or bisexual.

However, like that classic "Seinfeld" episode states, "Not that there's anything wrong with it!" I mean, Who Cares Really! I think my curiousity comes from my male attraction to her as a woman. I have always thought that she was cute! On some fantasy level, however unreallistic it might be, I'd like to know where I would stand with her sexually. To say "If there's a chance for us or not?" If she likes men, then at least biologically I am not eliminated. : ) I think all men have this curiosity about all women. I think it's built in.

Anyway...

I think only those closest to her and she herself will ever know for sure. I respect her desicion to keep her personal life private. However, It can also be uplifting and courageous when successful gay people come out to their fans. I think that it would be especially so in Lyte's case. She is Hip Hop Royalty. These speculations have been around for years and despite it, she has proven her talent enough to attain legendary status. I also feel that she would have nothing to fear publicly by coming out in this Day and Age. (See Elton John and to lesser degree Lance Bass)

I have found some articles that (circumstantially) support the speculation. At least how I came to my opinion. If nothing else, she is certainly supportive of gay and lesbian interests. Intrinsically, it means nothing, but if add the speculation over the years... you decide.

In 1988, MC Lyte accused Antoinette of stealing one of her tracks by lashing out on "10% Dis."

...Antoinette went in for the kill with "Lights Out, Party's Over," warning that she was bringing "100 percent beef" and would "fly that head," intimating that Lyte was a lesbian.

...Lyte's hardcore image began to soften with each passing album, and although the quality of her music never wavered, some of her fan base got worried around the time of 1991's Act Like You Know, which featured production by BBD boardsmen Wolf & Epic (Epic later became a member of Crazy Town), and "softer" songs like When In Love, which featured R&B elements (which, at that time, were a big no-no)...

...By 1996, the "jiggy" era was in full swing, and Lyte again decided to soften her image, not only to attain commercial success but also to soften rumors that she was a lesbian...

Yes she is, but it is rare that she will discuss her personal life. She is currently single. She was once married to Atlanta producer Todd 1 (whose real name is Todd Brown). She was linked to Tichina Arnold, but Tichina dispelled those rumors quickly.

Many believe she is. She's a rapper and her music is what people should concern themselves with. You like her music buy it, if not then don't buy it. I'm not a lesbian but I think she's an excellent rapper and an intelligent person and it shows by how long she's been around business wise.
