Is mechanical engineering the mother of all Engineering. How is it?

Well, the oldest engineering major would be Civil engineering which deals with construction of houses, bridges etc. this sort of engineering was there, from the time Iranians built Persepolis or Egyptians built pyramids...so this is the oldest engineering

Once the steam engine was invented the whole civilization took a step ahead and a new era began. it was the time that engineers tried to do anything form skinning an apple to digging mines, by newly discovered power (steam, later oil) through complicated systems of mechanical parts (hundreds of springs, gears, levers, you name it) they actually did it quite well. they cold give us cars, airplanes, submarines, high rise buildings, cheap cloths and shoes, .... they call it the Golden time of mechanical engineers. that was the time that in the eyes of public these people were magicians and did miracles...

This golden era came to end when the computers arrived. then computers and electronics started to rule technology and they are the magic. every day you get fascinated by a new competence in your cellphone or PC, in internet, GPS,...

take for example, engines, mechanical engineers invented themand developed them until 80s. then form this point tehy have nothing else to offer. then computers came and for instance gave Vriable Valve Timing (VVT) to engines.
