depends on its use. using as a Transmission Fluid probably not use what the manufacturer suggest. As for use in a pump the answer would be yes.
If it is a A/T Powerglide, you can use Dexron or a synthetic such as Mobil 1 ATF. You may not be able to find Dexron, but you can use Dexron II or Dexron III.
Mobil 1 ATF formulated for Mercon/Dexron III is good, but anything that is certified as "Mercon/Dexron III" compatible should be ok.
Use mobil 1 sythetic ATF
ATF Z-1 is not the same as Dexron III. Z-1 is a Honda specific fluid that is manufactured only for Honda transmissions. There are similarities in makeup of the two products, but the Dexron III will not meet the same performance criteria as the Z-1. Honda manufactures their own transmissions and for this reason, has developed their own ATF. For more information, contact your local Honda dealer.
There are now several ATF-Z1 compatible fluids available in auto parts stores, such as Castrol Import, and recently Mobil 1 ATF. These are thinner than DEXRON III, which the transmission perfers, and have the necessary additives. The real deal from the dealer is still the prefered fluid.
Mobil 1 synthetic ATF
Mobil's website makes no mention of compatibility of Mobil1 ATF with Chrysler ATF +4 (MS 9602) requirements and lacks the specified friction modifiers. Look at Amsoil, they have the best tranny fluid and Chrysler will not mess with them
yes, i have a zf tranny and i put mobil 1 in it, what kind of car do u have?
Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is supposed to be really good.
Dexron ATF is recommended fluid. But as far as Honda they try to sell their branded and mysterious ATF Z-1 which is more expensive compare to commercialized ATF.
Any Diamond ATF and Hyundai ATF as well - for 3rd party ATF - you can use Amsoil, Redline and most common Synthetic ATF - Mobil 1 = Visit their website for details.
DEXRON III can be used as a temporary replacement if you're just topping off the transmission, but should not be used as regular fill, and definitely not for a complete drain and refill. The DEXRON III is slightly thicker than the ATF-Z1, and also does not have the special additives that the OE Honda fluid does. It will cause harsh shifting, and if used for an extended period of time will gum up the shift solenoid. The shift solenoid is expensive, and the transmission would need to be flushed with the correct fluid before it will shift right. Drain and refill is usually done between 15-30K miles.
