Not being able to take a deep breath is not always considered shortness of breath. If you are exerting yourself, where you need more air but can't take a deep breath, you would have a shortness of breath.

Mainly because it causes shortness of breath, fatigue, dyspnea etc...
You won't be able to breath Smokers offen have shortness of breath, bad breath, coughing, and a higher risk for heart disease and heart attacks. asthma would only make those symptoms worse. either way don't smoke.
