This has been happening to me on and off for years. The cracks are painful and only get worse each time you open your mouth. Ask your doctor about Angular Cheilitis. It is a form of yeast infection. Nystatin ointment or Lotrimin might help.
I'm afraid to ask how the skin got chapped. You could try Desitin or other baby products meant for rashes. An over the counter cream like those used for women suffering from yeast infections would work , also.
i have really chapped lips and i just put chap stick on over night. when i wake up my lips are hardly chapped anymore.
