It depends on the diet you are following (e.g. Atkins, Protein Powder, etc.), on the number of carbs you can/want to eat and on the phase of the diet in which you are. For example, oatmeal would not be allowed in Atkins Induction, but it's okay to have it in OWL Rung 9 (in the 2002 plan).
Its a great thing to eat when watching your carbs. Throw in a hand full of cranberry's or raisons while you are cooking the oatmeal for an even better treat.
