Pakalert is an alternative news site. So, if you ask CNN, ABC, or take your pick of the alphabet news services if they consider it a peer, the answer of course would be no. However, if you ask any of the burgeoning mass of people that are gravitating toward it, they will likely say yes. It is not mainstream. But then again I would consider most of what is OUTSIDE of "mainstream" is more legitimate than in the stream. The term "freedom of the press" is not one that is strictly upheld by the United States government. True, one is free to start a station and broadcast what it calls news, however, once that news starts getting egg on the face of Unc Sam, he is quick to MITIGATE the First Amendment's freedom. And if you will notice, conservative media follows strict talking points as does liberal media. You must go outside of the stream often to hear any news that is not officially government sanctioned information.
NOW, I will say this; much of their contributions come from posters on other sites. It will say something like "Originally posted in x by Truther". And a good bit of it is commentary or op-ed pieces. I have heard the left lambast it over it being a conservative website. I believe they render "paka" a reference to the Republican Party's mascot elephant. But if it is, it simply shows a lack of knowledge regarding the english language IF they in fact do. As the word they are trying to link is not spelled "pakaderm", "pakadyrm", or even "pakiderm" as it would have to be to try to draw that link. To anyone who doubts me on this, elephants are "pachyderm". As you can see this bares no relation to "Pakalert".
I PERSONALLY consider it legitimate to a large extent. They are not your local news but for national, international, DHS, military, etc a lot of good information comes out from it.
Hope this helps. Remember, the mainstream media is on a short leash. Alternative media is on a longer one. Just depends on if you want to know only what the federal government wants you to know or you want to go outside what the government would like you to know. Which that information tends to be a great deal more interesting.
I have worked for them before and they are legitimate. They paid me.
