Most people say that Cummins is the best diesel engine but not with the new 6.7L offered in Dodge Ram trucks. The Ford Powerstroke Diesels put out more power than the Cummins by 40 horsepower and 85 pound feet of torque. Also, the new 6.7L Cummins engine has been known to overheat, stall, and the turbos are blowing in them at around 30,000 to 40,000 miles. The Cummins can't idle for more than 6 minutes or it will overheat and shut off and you must take it to the dealer to get the problem fixed. Let's compare. 6.4L Powerstroke diesel does not overheat, does not stall, but there ARE turbo problems with them. But that is no problem with the new 2011 6.7L Powerstroke diesel. As for Duramax, they've always been behind in quality but not power. So I'd say, here in 2010, that Powerstroke is the BEST diesel engine available in a pickup truck.
International Truck and Engine Company makes the PowerStroke Diesel engine for Ford. They also made the 6.9L IDI engine and 7.3L IDI engine. They made the 6.9L IDI, 7.3L IDI, 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel, 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel, and 6.4L Powerstroke Diesel. Ford strayed away from International for 2011 because of many problems with the 6.0L and 6.4L. For 2011, Ford is making its own diesel engine, the 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8.
The model year 2001 Ford Powerstroke Diesel was the 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8. The horsepower rating of this engine is 295 horsepower.
The 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8 engine produces 295 to 305 horsepower.
The 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8 engine.
In 1992 the only diesel engine ford offered in it's F250/350 trucks was the 7.3 IDI naturally aspirated diesel. It wasn't a powerstroke engine. Powerstroke engines were introduced in 1994 and were direct injection diesel engines. A 1992 7.3 IDI did not have a turbo.
about 1200 LBS
its a v8 turbo diesel
If you're meaning the weight of just the engine, the 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8 for 2011 weighs 970 pounds. That makes it the lightest diesel engine on the market.
AnswerI have an 03' powerstroke 7.3 with 560,000 original miles on the engine and tranny, and she is still going strong.
There have been injector problems, busted seals, and blown turbo problems. The best model year for the 6.0L Powerstroke engine would be the 2006 and 2007 model year. These were the years they got most of the problems worked out on the 6.0L Powerstroke engine.
The diesel engine that would be in a 2008 Ford E-350 van would be the 6.4L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8. This Powerstroke engine got poor fuel economy with about 16mpg highway and 12mpg city.
295 horsepower.
